Little bit about me, my name is Tavinder Bains. I’m currently a second-year grad student at Purdue Northwest in the program of mental health counseling. I am a Sikh Punjabi, American first generation.
I also was a registered behavior technician, working primarily with children with autism ranging from the ages of 4 to 22+ years old. While working as RBT, I was able to assist my clients in therapy sessions and social emotional learning, sparking my interest in Mental health.
Growing up as an Indian, I realized that mental health was not talked about in our community. In fact, one of my goals is to spread the knowledge of mental health care to those who do not understand English. But looking into the different cultures and religions of India mental health is talked about with different terminology. So, there is an opportunity to learn.
The approach is used mostly in therapy Mindfulness with a client centered approach, with CBT. I am familiar with art and play therapy. Currently I’ve been dabbling in somatic therapy.
My goal as a therapist is to provide a safe and nonjudgmental space for my client to be their most authentic self. I would like to join them on this journey of therapeutic healing. And helping them gain skills and resources along the way.
