A little bit about Tavinder: she is currently a second-year graduate student at Purdue University Northwest in the Mental Health Counseling program. Tavinder is a first-generation Sikh Punjabi American.

She previously worked as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), primarily with children with autism ranging from ages 4 to 22+. While working as an RBT, Tavinder assisted clients in therapy sessions and supported their social-emotional learning, which sparked her interest in mental health.

Growing up in the Indian community, Tavinder realized that mental health was rarely talked about. One of her goals is to spread awareness of mental health care to those who may not understand English. She also recognizes that different cultures and religions in India approach mental health using different terminology—an opportunity for deeper learning and connection.

In therapy, Tavinder primarily uses a mindfulness and client-centered approach, incorporating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). She is also familiar with art and play therapy, and is currently exploring somatic therapy.

Tavinder’s goal as a therapist is to provide a safe and nonjudgmental space where clients can be their most authentic selves. She hopes to join them on their journey of therapeutic healing, while helping them gain skills and resources along the way.
