LaShawn Young, LMFT-A

Education
School:
University of Akron
Degree:
Bachelors in Arts
LaShawn is a graduate of the University of Akron, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with minors in Communication and Psychology. She continued to develop her hands-on experience by working in prisons, rehabilitation centers, child welfare agencies, and psychiatric wards. LaShawn worked as an addiction counselor for several years before returning to focus on mental health.
Since graduating, mental health and family systems have remained a constant focus in her career. Over the past 10 years, LaShawn has dedicated herself to working with children and families. She earned her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and now integrates a multi-theoretical approach in her practice, drawing from Collaborative and Experiential Therapy models.
LaShawn believes in engaging clients in meaningful conversations centered around their desired changes. She emphasizes that sometimes, the most powerful form of communication is simply listening—because silence can say everything.
Her therapeutic approach is rooted in the belief that each client is the expert of their own life. LaShawn’s role is to offer support, insight, and practical tools to help individuals and families thrive. She strives to create a warm, compassionate, and inviting space where clients feel safe to be their authentic selves, recognize their strengths, and work collaboratively to overcome obstacles and achieve their goals.
