Merrillville, Telehealth

Education

School:
University of Houston

Degree:
Ph.D.

Dr. Ross completed her graduate work at the University of Houston and has clinical experience in settings ranging from family medicine and community mental health to juvenile corrections and hospital specialty clinics. She is a tenured associate professor at Purdue University Fort Wayne and has presented or published research on a range of topics including couples’ conflict, stress, attachment, personality disorders, and sexual behavior. In addition to her clinical training, teaching, and research, Dr. Ross also provides consultation and expert witness testimony to the military in court martial proceedings where a service member is charged with a crime related to one of her areas of expertise.

A cognitive-behavioral therapist by training, Dr. Ross believes that the foundation of therapeutic progress is the relationship between therapist and client. Dr. Ross seeks to create a warm and caring environment where she can develop an understanding of each client, their strengths, and their specific goals for therapy. She also views mental health counseling as an important self-care activity that should be viewed much like seeking treatment from a family doctor for medical concerns. Many individuals with presenting problems ranging from anxiety to sexual issues may not realize that their concerns are as common and treatable as many of the medical conditions presented to their primary care doctor every day.
