Masters in Health Science: Addiction Studies with Counseling Concentration
Shenay earned her Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in Addiction Studies from Governors State University and went on to complete a Master’s degree in Addiction Studies with a counseling specialty. With eight years of experience in the field, she has worked in residential, outpatient, and group settings, giving her a well-rounded understanding of the recovery journey.
Shenay understands that addiction often goes hand-in-hand with mental health challenges—whether those challenges existed before substance use or were brought on by it—and she is experienced in treating both. She offers therapy sessions both in-person and online via secure video, with weekday and evening availability to accommodate various schedules.
Her client-centered approach integrates a variety of evidence-based practices tailored to meet each individual’s needs. These include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Person-Centered Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Mindfulness-Based Interventions, Trauma-Informed Care, and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
In the first sessions, clients work together with Shenay to explore their history, identify patterns, and set meaningful goals. Treatment combines reflective, insight-oriented talk therapy with practical tools to manage emotions and foster real change. Many clients begin to feel more grounded and empowered within just a few weeks.
Shenay specializes in supporting individuals who feel stuck—whether due to addiction, mental health challenges, unresolved trauma, grief, or self-sabotaging patterns. Her ideal client is someone seeking clarity, emotional relief, and a stronger connection to self and others. Through compassionate, collaborative therapy, she helps people move toward healing and lasting growth.
If any of this resonates with you, please know you’re not alone—and you don’t have to do this by yourself. Healing is possible. Reach out when you’re ready—Shenay is here to help.
